"Because the children loved the animation team. The park was clean and the pool was clean too. The activities were well run and kept to the timetable. The staff at reception were great for advise and always helpful. The musicals/ shows were fantastic and the animation team worked so hard! The location was perfect."

Fabulous park with great facilities. Only down side was there was not enough space to park our car next to our mobile home and site staff asked us to park it away from our pitch just outside the security gate.

This camp is clearly well maintained. Many of the facilities looked new or refurbished. Excellent location on the bay.

West calder
The park is very green and leafy, with 3 lovely pools and a really nice open air retaurant with views of the lake. There is one shop, which has everything you need and is reasonably priced. You have direct access to the lake - although it is a just a tiny stony beach with a jetty - and there is not much either side of the complex either.

We used it as a base and it was perfect for exploring the area. Our kids (age 3 and 6) loved the pools when we got home each day. And there is also a good kids play park, as well as a disco every night 8.30pm-9.15pm. The mini club was for age 4 and upwards, so we didn't use it as our older boy didn't want to go on his own - but they had a lot of actvities advertised, as well as all the usual stuff around the pool....aqua aerobics, water polo etc.

We stayed in a 2 bed Pucini Lounge caravan with Alfresco. It was a shady, quiet, corner spot - which was good. And we were glad to have the big awning to give us shade.

We were a bit disappointed with how basic and sterile the caravan was - it really had the bare minimum of equipment and it did not feel cosy or homely at all. When we arrived there was one toilet roll, one cloth and half a bottle of washing up liquid - that was all. I don't know if that was what had been left by previous guests, or if that is what Alfresco supply.

What surpised me also was that we were expected to do the cleaning when we left - I had no intention of leaving it dirty, but I did expect that there would be cleaners in after us to give it a thorough clean for the next people - not the case. It makes we wonder how clean the caravans really will be as the season progresses, especially as there are no cleaning products supplied.

The "parking space" at 536 is a bit of a joke too - right at the side of the van and you have to squeeze yourself between the car and the side of the decking to get out. Not good for big cars...or big people! The aircon was good though and it was great to get our beach towels supplied wth the linen too. No TV, but that was fine.

I think next time I would go for a park that was a bit closer to a nice beach or promenade though. And I would use Alfresco again - although I was a bit disappointed about the lack of local knowledge both the camp reception staff and the Alfresco hosts, Janet and John, had. They were all very nice and friendly - but they just really supplied us with leaflets and we worked out the rest ourselves.

A good tip for families is the Heller Botanic Garden in Gardone - a lovely garden on various split levels, and with a fantastic sculpture trail which the kids loved running around searching for. The wee train which leaves from the bottom of the Silvella complex is good too - 2 euros for a one hour round trip and you can get off and then get the next train an hour later. Again very limited info, so we just stayed on for the hour! And we didn't do any tours - just drove around ourselves to the likes of Salo, Dezenzano and Sirmione. We took the ferry from Salo to Garda too - 46euros for a family day ticket on the standard boats. Extra 4 euros per person for the fast boat.

And Baia del Vente is a lovely bay with pedalos, great retaurant and a kids park. Its a 5 minute drive, or we wee tourist train can take yo there.
