10 REASONS TO TRAVEL BY TRAIN
The strange looking tickets, the smell of the trains, the man talking at you in a different language about being in the wrong seat! See, you have something to put on Facebook and you haven’t even got to your destination yet! But there are loads more reasons why travelling by train in Europe is the best way of getting from A to B.
1. A ROOM WITH A VIEW
No pokey plane-style windows for you. Enjoy the amazing countryside thanks to massive windows you can actually see through!
2. 'WHAT'S THAT IN MILES PER HOUR?’
Forget about worrying what the speed limit is, you’re not driving! And thanks to no other traffic being in way you get to go far faster than you would if you were driving. Plus you don’t have to worry about coming across that random tractor down that country lane.
3. SAY GOODBYE TO SAT NAVS
No sat nav confusion to argue over. No wrong roads to go down, no misspelling of place names to stress about and no strange pinging noises that you have no idea what they mean! Just get off when you have reached your destination!
4. JUST RIGHT - RELAX IN COMFORT
Have you noticed how cars are always too hot and planes are always too cold? Most European trains on the other hand are just right! Thanks to air conditioning and not having to sit on top of each other!
5. NO MORE PACKED LUNCHES
Forget rummaging around the boot for some squashed sandwiches and a crushed bag of crisps – just pop to the buffet carriage and get yourself a nice cup of tea and something piping hot!
6. 'SHE SAID WHAT?'
Travelling by train gives you a window on fellow travellers’ lives, it’s like watching a box set on Netflix as you find out who’s done what to whom and when. Prepare to be outraged when you find out what he bought his mum for Christmas – as if she hasn’t suffered enough?!
7. HAVE A WANDER
Enjoy the leisurely pace of a train station, with no two hour check-in needed you can have a wander around the shops and buy sweets with a funny name and some paprika flavoured crisps!
8. EASY COME, EASY GO
No need to wait for the seatbelt sign. The joy of not having to sit on a runway forever before take-off, not having to pretend to watch any safety demo and not having to do that half-stand-one -knee –on-the seat pose waiting for the doors to open is bliss.
You’re not driving so you can open a bottle of wine as you glide through vineyards, enjoy a beer with your friends, or start the holiday off with a cheeky gin in a tin. You can on a train – after all someone else is doing the driving!
10. TIME FOR A NANNA-NAP
That rhythm and the smooth ride make for excellent nap conditions. No emergency braking for rogue countryside animals, no turbulence, no fighting in the back seat about who pinched who! Just smooth peacefulness all the way… mmmm… nice.
