10 REASONS TO TRAVEL BY CAR

Every great story features a car journey – whether it’s a coming of age road trip or a thrilling car chase, cars are at the centre of it. So why bother with any other form of transport when you have your four-tyred friend waiting to take you where you want to go!

1. PLEASE TAKE A SEAT...

Well someone else’s seat. Let’s be honest how clean is a train, or a plane? It’s not like they wash the seats ever… I’m not saying that they are dirty, but the more you think about it, the more it is a bit eurgh!

2. TAKE A BREAK

Fancy stopping for something to eat? Is someone in the back desperate for a pee? Seen a sign for local wine for only €3 a bottle. Well, stop. Because you can.

3. EVERYTHING AND THE KITCHEN SINK

No 15kg luggage-allowance here, no worries about whether you can take your toothpaste in your hand luggage! You can pack what you want. Fancy taking your bike? Stick it on the roof! Drink? No problem! Fancy taking grandma? Stick her in the boot... on second thoughts she might want to sit in the back!

4. WAIT, THEY SELL HOT DOGS?

There is no finer manoeuvre than pulling into roadside services to make you feel in control of your destiny. Shelves brimming with snack foods to fuel your journey, bottles of pop you don’t recognise and beige food of an indeterminable age under heat lamps. BUY THE LOT! You’re on holiday, you deserve it!

5. PUMP UP THE JAM

Pick the perfect soundtrack to your holiday journey and turn it up as loud as you want! If you feel the urge to belt out your favourite Cher number, then you can – nothing beats a car based sing-a-long.

6. LOOK AROUND YOU

With windows to the front, rear and sides, you’d be hard pushed to get a better view of the countryside as you cruise along.

7. EASY LIKE SUNDAY MORNING

There is natural rhythm to car travel and because of this the journey becomes a part of the holiday. There’s no point rushing – travelling by car teaches you to relax into your adventure.

8. LOOK! A SIGN FOR A TRACTOR MUSEUM

No ‘Go directly to your destination, do not pass go’, on this holiday - You are the master of your own destiny and if you fancy taking a detour you can. Imagine having to go from A to B and not stopping off to take a photo of yourself in front of that road sign with the name that sounds a bit rude!

9. FANCY A NATTER

Making polite conversation with strangers is okay for the first ten minutes, but sooner or later you run out of conversation – even with that story about Cousin Brenda and the bread rolls at the wedding! Luckily car travel lends itself to conversation and chat – if only about how crisp packets used to have more in them.

10. CAR COUTURE

Whilst travelling by plane or train requires planning in what you wear, it’s your car, so you get to wear what you want. Fancy travelling in your pyjamas? Haven’t washed your hair? You can even take your duvet if you like.
