For a small country, Holland is very big on unexpected delights. Everyone knows how wonderful Amsterdam is - but you'll be surprised by so many other attractions. Miles of soft sandy beaches, acres of sun dappled forests - and it's so easy to walk or cycle everywhere.
Unique and friendly, The Netherlands, in actual fact is an extremely diverse country with hip cities, historic architecture and loads of lovely flat country side (where you'll find most of those windmills) perfect for cycling.
Surrounded by soft sand dunes, sun dappled forests and countryside in every shade of green, Wassenaar lies slightly inland from Holland's beautiful west coast, with its sprawling eight kilometre blue flag beach and is the perfect place for a family holiday or short break.
The Dutch adore potatoes. In fact, one of Vincent Van Gogh's most famous paintings is `The Aardappeleters' or potato eaters.
Stamppot is the pinnacle of Dutch cuisine. A kilo of potatoes boiled to oblivion, mixed with some really well done cabbage or raw endive and mashed into a pulp. Sounds horrid, but is actually delicious!
Not tempted? Well then there's always fantastic steaks and loads and loads of yummy cheese instead.
De Efteling B.V is one of the oldest and most popular theme parks.
Tiki Tropical water parc adjacent to Duinrell. The canals and museums, shops and gabled houses of Amsterdam are all perfect places to visit while on one of our family holidays in Holland.
Beaches: there are, to most people's surprise, some stunning, beautiful and unspoilt beaches on the North Sea coast which are well worth a visit for sun and sea or wildlife and long inspiring walks.
